With net zero GHG(Greenhouse Gas) commitment made worldwide, governments are making every effort to fulfil their promises. And as the main source of GHG, internal combustion engine vehicles, especially heavy-duty vehicles of its kind, have been top-listed to transform the way it works. And indeed there have been policies on electrifying heavy-duty vehicles discussed and published in Europe and America since 2020. Among them, the highly cited California state "Advanced Clean Cars II" regulations have been suited by 7 other American states, including the most recent New Jersey 2035 climate goals outlined by Governor Phil Murphy. In the White Paper, the golden state Air Resources Board states that

"By 2035 all new passenger cars, trucks and SUVs sold in California will be zero emissions."

And not just in America, heavy duty vehicles in Europe, including trucks for mining, port transpotation, engineer construction and their kind, are redesigned to consume clean energy, mainly electricity.

The policy-makers are justified to lay stress and even to fight on the electrifiation of heavy-duty vehicles and they explained why. An official research by CPUC (The California Public Utilities Commission) on California GHG source exemplifies that heavy-duty trucks contributes more than 70% of total GHG emission in California. The option of electrifying heavy-duty trucks is too obvious to ignore. With great political incentives and the unrivalled humanity commonwealth, electrical heavy-duty truck sales have been soaring in major markets including North America, Europe and China markets.

And to accommodate electrical heavy-duty trucks, EV charging infrastructure including EV charging network and battery swapping station is expanding more and more rapidly. Despite the many EV charging products in the market, suitable and apt EV charging solutions demand much efforts to find and match, especially when it comes to heavy-duty trucks applicable in complicated EV charging and battery swappping station scenarios producing corrosive particles and dust, like mining sites, construction scenario, port transportation and steel plant.

Steel plant produces metal dust and particles, which are likely to short-circuit charing modules

UUGreenPower 30kW/40kW charging modules with IP65 protection level are specially designed for harsh environments mentioned above. From experimental laboratories to customer application, the product series is a proven success in terms of wide input voltage range, high efficiency output, long lifespan and low TCO (Total Cost of Owning).

Customer case study

One of UUGreenPower's customers, an EV charging pile manufacturer managed to customize charging solution for a steel plant park. As there are dozens of electric heavy-duty trucks dedicated to transporting various types of steel and finished materials on site, the utilization rate of heavy-duty trucks is very high. And electrical heavy-duty trucks requires fast charging for energy supplement.

Furthermore, as the large-scale cutting and irrigation equipment in the steel plant produce a large amount of metal dust particles when they are working, the particles can easily get into the interior of the charging pile and its core component, the charging modules. The metal dust particles have conductive properties and it can easily cause a short circuit, cause damage to the charging pile components and PCB board, and lead to charging pile failure.

Dust, corrosion in EV charging pile

For the steel plant scenario, the traditional IP54 charging pile and IP20 direct ventilation charging module is not able to effectively block the erosion of conductive dust on the internal components of the charging pile. And using dust-proof cotton will inevitably block the air inlet, undermine the heat dissipation of the pile body, reduce the charging efficiency, and cause charging failure.

Based on the analysis, the charging pile company tested UUGreenPower 30kW charging module with IP65 protection level. The piles have a high protection level and are protected against high humidity, dust, salt spray, condensation, etc. It operates stably and reliably in various harsh environments. So after detailed tests and monitorings on the application, the customer accommodates 360kW EV DC charging station equipped with UUGreenPower 30kW charging modules with IP65 protection level.
